Hi everyone! My name is Ben Casiello and I am the Farm Manager at the Hampshire Country School. I have been working at the school since 2011. My wife, Cathy, (who is a Speech and Language Pathologist in our local public school district) and I have four children. We have two boys and two girls who we home school and who come to HCS with me every day. As a home schooled kid myself, I fell in love with farming when I was very young. At the age of four I attended a festival at a Heifer International learning center and got to milk a goat for the first time. I was instantly hooked! Shortly after, I began volunteering at that same facility and continued all the way up through college. With Heifer International I got to do a bit of traveling, both domestically and internationally. I brought rabbits to Honduras to replenish livestock after a damaging hurricane, and toured tilapia and worm farms in the basements of cement buildings in inner city Chicago. I was able to learn about agricultural techniques from all over the world while simultaneously being able to help people in need. All the while I worked on local farms with cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, rabbits, and all types of poultry. Later, I attended the University of Massachusetts and received a degree in Animal Science/Pre-Vet with a focus in livestock production. Apart from farming; I enjoy playing sports, hiking, exercising, and playing board games. I also play a lot of instruments (poorly) and have taught guitar, mandolin, and accordion at school.
